The New Melle FPD is situated in a rural area.  While the department now responds to emergencies on a 24 hour, 7 day per week basis with full-time paid crews of 3 persons per shift, volunteers still play a major role in responding to fires, vehicle accidents, and  medical first response.

On occasion, you will look up in your rearview mirror and see flashing blue lights in a personal vehicle.  In our area, that is in all likelihood one of our volunteers trying his or her best to get to an emergency that they have just been paged to.

Please respect these lights and sirens on personal vehicles when you see or hear them, and at your first safe opportunity to do so, pull over so that they can proceed to their call.  If it is one of our volunteers, they will never pull behind you or attempt to approach your vehicle; rather, they are just trying to get around you.

Remember, the incident they are trying to reach could someday be a fire or medical response to your house.

Thank you for your cooperation.
