It can be very disconcerting to view a brush fire rushing up to your house, or your neighbor’s house, based on careless burning practices. Help to prevent this by following the procedures outlined below!
In advance of any burning between 9/15 and 4/14, burn permits may be applied for by calling Deputy Chief Rick Massey at 828-5528, or emailing him at rmassey@newmellefire.org. No open burning is to occur from 4/15 through 9/14, based largely on detrimental effects to the ozone layer.
In operating with your burn permit, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources guidelines for burning are as follows:

  • Do not burn if winds are in excess of 5 m.p.h.
  • 4’ pile maximum burning area at any one time
  • All burning to be closely and continuously attended at all times, else fully extinguished
  • All burning is to take place between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
