Wednesday morning, August 19th, units were dispatched to a house on fire in the area of Sugar Hollow Ct. in Lake Sherwood. The exact address wasn’t known by the caller because they were seeing it from a distance. The truck from Station 3, at the entrance to Lake Sherwood, arrived first and found fire coming from the side of the house. The fire was knocked down by the first two New Melle trucks on scene, then our crews (plus those of the arriving neighboring departments) went to work pulling down the ceiling to make sure the fire that had made it into the attic space was extinguished completely. Nobody was home at the time of the fire and it is believed by the fire marshal that a lightning strike nearby had traveled through the propane line into the kitchen and ignited behind the stove. We were assisted on-scene by Augusta, Marthasville, Wentzville, and Wright City Fire Protection Districts, and Lake St. Louis Fire covered our Station 1.
